Got a little moody with this edit from a couple of weeks ago, and I love how it turned out. I always try to edit close to how the day felt/looked.

Could I have bumped up the exposure to make it feel way brighter?

Yes, but that doesn't align with my editing philosophy.

It was on and off raining all day leading up to Jeremy and Leah's session, and I was pumped when we ended up shooting that day anyway. We got lucky with a little pocket of no rain, and at the end of our session, it starting sprinkling a little bit.

The Morton Arboretum was giving off some PNW vibes, and I was all for it.

I'm always a fan of when photo friends ask me to photograph them. Jeremy is one of my go to second shooters, and he's even been an associate lead shooter for me a couple of times. We met serendipitously at a wedding where he was a second for video, and we've been great friends ever since. This session was for Leah's birthday, which is awesome that they're still taking photos even after being married and having wedding photos to look back on.

One of my favorite first look/portrait poses spaces is the bar at @sanctuaryeventsplainfield .

I mean, it's just so fancy, and Katie and Brandon looked absolutely stunning filling that space.

I was lucky enough to shoot here on back to back weekends last year, and it was a great space to revisit this past weekend.

I love going through old client galleries and seei

I love going through old client galleries and seeing photos that I forgot about.

While searching for outfit inspiration for upcoming couples, I stumbled upon a photo of myself in a wedding gallery 😂.

One of the best parts about cocktail hour is being able to catch up with people attending the wedding that I might know!

It doesn't happen to often, but it's always a joy to see a familiar face.

Tahirih and Keeyan had just about every type of weather thrown their way on their wedding day, but we were still able to make the best of it.

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph them at the beautiful Bahá'í House of Worship in Wilmette followed up by a stunning view of the city at Gibson's Italia.

FYI: if you have a Rolls Royce on your wedding day, it is going to be a feature for your photos.

Loved this session that Sophie and Noah were able to do by just stepping out of the venue space for a couple of minutes.

You'd be surprised at the magic that photographers can make happen with just a handful of minutes. Portraits sessions don't need to be over an hour long, but we do still need some time to be creative and really capture your day.

One of my favorite shots to get is the first one. I like to call it "The outfit shot." I catch just a little of the smiles while focusing on how great you look on your wedding day.

Managed to take these photos during Allison and Lucas' portrait session in Cabo earlier in the year.

Whether it's one of my wedding couples of one of @iambenramos , y'all get treated the same.

I bring my film cameras with me everywhere I go, and that includes weddings.

I'm always surprised at the amount of detail that a 35mm strip can contain.

Absolutely LOVE City Hall weddings.

Your wedding day doesn't have to cost you thousands of dollars. If you're just looking for it to be legal and want some dope photos, you are allowed to do that.

The last photo on this set is a happy film accident. The light shield on the front of my Leica was damaged, so steaks of light would hit the front of the film.

All of the bleak recent weather is reminding me of some gloomy wedding days that I've been a part of.

If I'm helping you build your wedding day timeline, rest assured that I will REALLLLLY encourage you to step outside during sunset and get some photos then.

Sunset can be tricky, especially if there is a tree line at your venue. If that's the case, then you probably want to be outside close to 20 minutes before sunset...depending on how tall those trees out.

Sara and Grant's wedding day this past summer was rainy and gloomy to start, but when I saw the sun peaking through some of the clouds at the end of the day, I told them it was a now or never moment to step out and grab these photos.

Shout out to @outwardvisuals who snagged my Leica M6 on our way out. He learned the rangefinder focusing on the fly (I have the film photos to prove it 😂) and absolutely nailed this last shot.

Send offs aren't exclusively at the end of the night. Sparkler exits are what most people think of when it comes to a wedding send off, but having a ceremony send off is incredible, too.

These can be as easy as bubbles when you exit the church, or confetti canons if you're getting married outdoors (just please make whatever if being tossed eco friendly).

I don't second shoot very often anymore. Most of the time, it's for friends that I like working with, so getting paid to shoot a wedding with them is kinda a bonus.

I've said this before over at @jvonfilm , but to me, film has this feeling that is as close to a tangible memory as possible.

True story: I leave the notifications turned for when anyone registers or downloads a photo in your gallery. I'm always curious to see if photos will pop up after they've been downloaded, or if they were downloaded to print.

PROTIP for having your photos taken: when you're walking or even just standing in one spot, walk or stand like you're on a tightrope. It just looks better.

I haven't posted in a while, and my last one didn't do so well, so noted that good ol' Al (the algorithm) likes pictures of people in love more than studio headshots.

Off season for weddings means that I get to explor

Off season for weddings means that I get to explore other types of sessions, like headshots and branding work.

A couple of years ago, we did a branding session at @goodnews_barbershop , but now that they're redoing their website, they needed headshots to go along with those branding photos.

David at @goodnews_barbershop has been cutting my hair for about 4 years now, and I no longer trust anyone else to do it. His crew is top notch, and I was so happy to get these shots for them.

Wedding photographers often get pigeonholed as only being able to shoot weddings, but I think we're some of the most talented when it comes to adjusting to light on the fly. It is a bit easier when I can control light in a studio with a backdrop and camera strobe.

I got my Leica M6 back from repairs about a day or two before this shoot, and I'm so stoked on how these turned out.

I've slowly been building my engagement/wedding film catalogue, and I'm excited to begin offering this to couples that intentionally want photos taken on film.

Shout out to Chicago, the perfect snowfall, and the streets of Lincoln Park for looking so beautiful on this late January shoot.

My absolute favorite aspect of designing albums is that I get to look at what YOU selected as your favorite photos of the ones that I made that day.

If anything, it's a bit of feedback about the types of photos that my couples like the most. Of course, each selection is different with each couple.

This is also a sign to have some sort of a send off during your wedding day. If it's bubbles, confetti, or dried petals after your ceremony, or a sparkler exit at "the end" of the night (we all know sparkler exits can be done at any point once the sun sets), it's just a great photo to be surrounded by all the people that love you the most.

Struggling with white balance while using an exter

Struggling with white balance while using an external flash, especially during sparkler exits where the light temperature’s don’t match? Here is a tip:

- Use Lightroom’s subject select tool (hotkey M, then select subject) highlight the subject that isn’t the right temperature.

- Brush in whatever else needs to be added, OR you can also erase part of the mask that has been selected

- Adjust the temperature of your subject so it matches the ambient light in the photo

Could you possibly just bring a gel for your flash and avoid this extra step? Yes, but I already try to carry the minimum amount of gear, so that’s just SOMETHING ELSE to bring that I don’t want to.
