How incredible does Annie look in her stunning cathedral wedding gown‽‽‽

When I walked into her home, I absolutely loved how they had already set up how her dress was hanging.

We had a ton of fun making portraits on their wedding day at the Fullersburg Woods and downtown Hinsdale.

I just dropped off their film for development yesterday, and I can't wait what comes out of it.

This was also the first time I intentionally photographed portraits on a wedding day with the digital Leica M, and the results are incredible (photos 2-5)

Love that I can always count on @jermsquad22 / @outwardvisuals to kill it with the groomsmen in the morning!

They were all smiles during their session, and I can't wait to see them on their wedding day.

Thankful for my team of associates that I trust to the fullest. My company will be in 3 places at once on Saturday, and I'm super confident that all of the photos will turn out incredible!

Moments from Molly and Patrick's first look, portraits, and dance floor on their wedding day in June.

Fireball kept coming up throughout the day in more ways than one. Moments after their beautiful first look, Patrick shared through some tears that he was just getting pumped up by listening to "Fireball" by Pitbull, and now he was looking at his wife! It had us all laughing, including me and @outwardvisuals , because we were there to witness this very true statement.

After their first look, Molly and Patrick had to play rock, paper, scissors to see who would go first with their vows.

Once the dance floor opened up, you know "Fireball" was on the playlist, and Patrick was more than prepared. He even got me and @jermsquad22 to party with them on the dance floor, which, lets face it, is not that difficult to do.

I love it when florists leave extra petals behind to give wedding details that extra color. @bou_k_bridal absolutely killed it this day! I mean, check out these flower towers at the front of the ceremony space.

Aaron and Jenna a couple weeks back at Bolingbrook Golf Club with @avistoria. Considering that the lightning alarms went off during their sunset portraits, I'm really happy that we found some shelter to still make some amazing portraits on their wedding day.

I'm gearing up for the busiest part of my season. This weekend will be the last non wedding weekend until 11/4 😨. Between 9/2 and 10/28, I will be lead shooting 12 weddings!

Please don't read this as a complaint. I'm extremely grateful for the work, and I love that I get to do this and label it as work.

New (to me) camera alert.

Earlier this summer, I brought my usual go to camera set up to an engagement session - the Canon R6 with a 28-70mm f2 lens. The couple at the photo shoot said “Woah that’s intimidating.”

If you know this set up, mainly the lens, you know that it’s heavy and that the lens itself is a tank. It’s huge and in your face. Anytime I take that lens out, people are baffled by the sheer size of it. I love the lens. It gets the job done. It’s my workhorse, but I want people to feel comfortable in front of the camera.

When I brought out my Leica M6 to shoot some film at their session, they said “That’s a friendlier looking camera.” I agree. It’s also a beautiful camera. I love shooting with the M system. They’re compact, the glass is incredible, they look sleek, and they are a very inviting camera. The one thing that I hated about shooting with my current M6 was the cost associated with it.

Film is expensive, it hasn’t gotten any cheaper, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to either. With film comes the added cost of development, and thankfully I scan my own otherwise that would be another expense. Shooting on the M240 gives me the feeling of shooting on my M6 without the added cost. And if this film bubble never bursts, well then I guess I have a digital M for the long haul.

There is definitely a time and place for this camera. I can’t wait to start using it more often both personally and professionally.

One of my best investments for wedding photography

One of my best investments for wedding photography hasn’t been my cameras and lenses.

Believe it or not, it’s been constant lights. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shown up to a dark venue with high, dark ceilings and thought “well how are we going to light this?!”

Yes I can use OCF, but the trial and error of it sometimes requires more time to set up, plus you have to worry about battery recharge cycles.

I love constant lights for several reasons. Videographers always appreciate them, there is no guess work to them, and the biggest reason is that it gets your attendants to focus on you.

I’ve heard too many times that a wedding reception is a party that you throw for other people, but that shouldn’t be the truth. My philosophy about reception lighting is that the venue should dim the lights and by putting my spot lights on you, it naturally garners people’s attention on the most important part of the day, the couple getting married. Whether it's during speeches or during the first and parents dances, my biggest pet peeve is when people are talking over them, so spotlighting these events helps avoid that issue.

I used to rock the Lowel Omni lights, and those were fantastic, but I’m excited to have upgraded to @aputure.lighting 60x lights and control everything from my phone!

Reception lighting just got a whole lot better!

Shout out to @iambenramos for setting me up with my first rig.

The first three photos are what it looks like when a photographer puts lights on you, and the last two are photographing with whatever available light there is plus off camera flash.

The night was a perfect representation of highlights of their love: drinks at their favorite bar, photos on their old street, and stunning view of the city.

The worst part about this night is that we have to wait an entire year to do this all over again. 😭

Between 6/3 and 6/10, I've photographed three weddings. I'm a bit behind on sharing for several reasons:

1. That's a lot of pictures to go through
2. I'm currently in grad school trying to complete a whole semesters worth of classes in one summer
3. I'm daddy day care during the summer.

As much of an excuse as those can be, I still find myself scrolling on here, so I might as well post, too.

How do I pick only 10 images from Alyssa and Chris' wedding day?!

I absolutely love the lighting that Company 251 provides. There is no bad place to take a picture at that venue.

When I first met Alyssa and Chris, Chris and I nerded out over film photography, so you know I had to bring the Leica M6 with that day. I let Chris take a couple pictures of his bride, and I'm super excited to share that roll with them.

I'm a sucker for epic exits.

They can be super simple, too. Bubbles are nice, especially if you've got one of those bubble machine guns that have been made famous by TikTok. It's easier than having everyone blows bubbles at the same time.

Paper streamers are fun, too. They're super easy to clean up.

Not pictures are dried petals, but they're a favorite of mine.

Remember when doing your exits to be courteous of the rules that are in place or to anyone else that might be photographing there, too. The ceremony before us overstayed their time slot, and it's totally not cool when the priest has to come out of the church and kick you out so the next ceremony can happen.

As always, I got the shot anyway. It always helps when the wedding party is super punctual and takes direction well!

Got a little moody with this edit from a couple of weeks ago, and I love how it turned out. I always try to edit close to how the day felt/looked.

Could I have bumped up the exposure to make it feel way brighter?

Yes, but that doesn't align with my editing philosophy.

It was on and off raining all day leading up to Jeremy and Leah's session, and I was pumped when we ended up shooting that day anyway. We got lucky with a little pocket of no rain, and at the end of our session, it starting sprinkling a little bit.

The Morton Arboretum was giving off some PNW vibes, and I was all for it.

I'm always a fan of when photo friends ask me to photograph them. Jeremy is one of my go to second shooters, and he's even been an associate lead shooter for me a couple of times. We met serendipitously at a wedding where he was a second for video, and we've been great friends ever since. This session was for Leah's birthday, which is awesome that they're still taking photos even after being married and having wedding photos to look back on.
