There are many words that I could use to describe the relationship that I have with Mike and Amanda: teammates (both with Amanda and Mike on possibly the world’s worst softball team, but we did get a win! Mike and I also play on the same basketball team), colleague (I teach at the same school with Amanda), but my favorite word would be friends. I’ve grown to love these two together in the little amount of time that I’ve known them as a package deal. I have known Amanda since we were in middle school, and now we both teach at the same high school we once attended. I thought that was all of the commonalities I would share with these two until their wedding day became an extremely special day for me as well.

A bit of a side note, but I promise it’s a good one. Two days before Amanda and Mike were to get married (Wednesday night), my wife was admitted to the hospital to hopefully have a quick and natural delivery to our baby boy. She was induced the following morning (Thursday morning) and labored all day, literally. Finally at around midnight, her doctor suggested an epidural so she could get some rest, and our baby Logan was born on Friday morning, June 30th, 2017. This date also coincides with Amanda and Mike’s wedding day. I don’t think there is a word for that relationship, but it is a span of time that I will never forget.

Even though I only had a couple of hours of sleep, I was enamored with the location at The Haight in downtown Elgin, the decorations that were totally Amanda and Mike, or really just Mike (pizzas were engraved on pieces of wood), and the display of love. It was a wedding ceremony unlike any other that I’ve ever been a part of. The ceremony was totally their own. It was filled with each other versions of their love story, readings that described their relationship, and friends and family that all wanted to be a part of it.

I was honestly surprised, yet truly honored to get a special shout out in their thank you speech. My only regret was wishing that they booked me for longer so I could capture more of this special day. Cheers to the Amelings. I hope you enjoy their wedding day highlights as much as I did capturing them.
