I've been STRUGGLING to post. Most of the time that I open Instagram, I check DMS, scroll, and then hit my time limit and ignore the app the rest of the day. Now IG is gonna tell my DMs how quickly I respond?! I see what you're doing @instagram .

It's been a busy summer (even though we technically haven't started summer yet), and I've just thrown the last birthday party for my kids for 2022 (all three are late spring/early summer babies). That's a big deal.

This engagement shoot with Colleen and Mike was something special. It was also during a weekend where I photographed a wedding in Aurora on Saturday, and I was at the Ogden Dunes photographing these two lovebirds on Sunday morning. Up next will be my post of the shoot that followed the two of them in downtown Chicago just hours after.

Super excited for their big day in September!

Yesterday’s wedding was a dream!

The day started with some heavy rains, but we took advantage of every minute outside once it stopped. It also started with the autofocus switch ripping off of my 35mm lens (photo in my story), but I had some fun going back to my old daily driver, my 24-70mm, especially on the dance floor.

Jen and Cory were such a blast to work with. I loved getting to hear about their beautiful story from one of the best and most sentimental best man speeches I’ve ever heard (shoutout JD, a beer and a shot).

The dance floor was a blast, and it definitely got me excited for the 2022 wedding season to continue.

It was the official start to my wedding season this past weekend. Although this was technically my 2nd wedding of the year, wedding szn is officially here. My next weekend of not shooting is in June, but even those weekends are spent catching up on the editing from previous shoots.

This weekend featured three shoots and two states in the span of 24 hours.

In order:
- Angel and JT's wedding in Aurora, IL
- Colleen and Michael's engagement shoot at the Ogden Dunes in Indiana,
- Bobby and Lisa's engagement shoot in downtown Chicago

I loved being able to finally put some faces to names and voices I've only heard for the past year.

Can't wait for what the rest of the season brings.

One of my favorite things to do with couples is walking around their neighborhoods and visiting some of their favorite spots. It definitely takes the pressure off the expectations of what engagement sessions "need to be."

The recessional photos are quickly becoming my fav

The recessional photos are quickly becoming my favorite ones on a wedding day, especially when there is a special exit planned. Lisa and Anthony were pensive about having flowers thrown outside because there was a little bit of snow happening on their wedding day, but it was totally worth it!

If it snows on your wedding day, you have to do pictures in the snow, especially if it’s big, chunky snowflakes. They photograph so well, and it makes your wedding look like a winter wonderland, even if you did get married in April 😉

I’m terrible about getting BTS footage on wedding days, but it’s always nice to have @outwardvisuals back me up as a 2nd shooter. Good to have the gang back together again.

2022 is kicking off. I’ve got one slot left for weddings.

I do need to get my wedding endurance back because I am exhausted today 😅

It's been a while since I've photographed at city

It's been a while since I've photographed at city hall in Chicago. Of course, Cook County was going to Cook County it up, and the judges started their day at least 30 minutes late. We made the best of it and took photos while we were standing in line.

Check out that morning light! Huge tip for those of you wanting photos done in Chicago: consider morning shoots, they're less crowded, and you can still get that beautiful golden light!

One of my favorite recent activities is going thro

One of my favorite recent activities is going through old galleries and updating the color palettes so they match my current colors. Now that I'm established in my editing style and have perfected my presets to work for me, I want all of my photos to have the same look.

I've been exploring AI options for culling and editing photos, and it's slightly terrifying, but not entirely out
of the realm of possibilities 😬. For any of my clients reading this, don't worry: this would be a starting point, not an ending point. I'd still do the final once over before I delivered your photos.

It's crazy how good computers have gotten, and the cost of doing business that way wouldn't actually be that bad. It means that my clients would get their images back faster, and the biggest perk is getting more than with my family, and nothing can put a price on that.

After going over my numbers for 2022, I'm only allowing myself to take in 1 MORE WEDDING. I feel incredibly blessed to possibly close my books for the year within the first quarter of the year.

I've already got a handful of weddings booked for 2023. Don't sleep on your vendors. They might not be available for your date. 😎

Words of advice when selecting your wedding photog

Words of advice when selecting your wedding photographer:

1. Take a look at how they edit the color green. A recent trend in wedding photography is to mute green to a mossy color. If green is going to be a major color in your wedding based on decorations, venue, or portrait photo spot, you don't want to be surprised at how it looks on your photos.

2. Ask for a full wedding day gallery! Sometimes couples are pensive about this one. This isn't offensive, and your (potential) photographer should have no problem showing you an entire gallery. Heck, even ask for a gallery that you think might match the aesthetic of your day. If they're sketch about showing you a full gallery, maybe ask yourself why...

3. This one is more like 2a, but see if they have any images in "not ideal" lighting situations. Most photographers are great in natural light, but what does it look like once the sun sets, or when the sun is at it's peak, or when it's a really dark reception space?

Bonus: Also ask how they plan on
lighting your reception. Some photographers/videographers prefer to use constant lights during important moments in your reception, while others
will use off camera flash that will only turn on as the moment is being captured. Most importantly, what is the look and mood that you want during the reception?
